The Year of Dalia Shir
Waiting for Baby H
In Q1, we anxiously awaited the COVID vaccine rollout and the birth of our first child. To pass the time, we ran every errand possible, cooked meals to freeze, designed the baby's room, and deep cleaned closets. While we may have been ready for Baby H's arrival, the baby was not. Initially due March 30, Baby H made us wait until April 6th to meet.

Baby GIRL Hornstein Arrives
The Story in a Nutshell:
On the way to the hospital for a scheduled induction, we got a call that the hospital was full and we should come back a few hours later. We turned around, watched the NCAA tournament finals and worked on a puzzle to pass the time.
Once the Pitocin kicked in, labor went so quickly that Jon almost missed the start of pushing and the OB who wanted to catch the baby just made it for the final push.
When the OB let Jon call the sex, Jon confused the umbilical cord for genitalia.
Baby GIRL Hornstein finally arrived on April 6th, 2021 at 2:00PM weighing 6 lb and measuring 17''.
Naming Dalia Shir
We named our baby girl Dalia Shir. Her name is inspired by qualities of Erika's paternal grandfather Billy Rief and Jon's maternal grandfather Joseph Bernstein. The full speech can be found here:
Meeting Family & Friends
We were so grateful that the "safety" of the first vaccine series and the warm weather allowed us to be with friends and family in the first few months of Dalia's life which we hadn't been able to in a year. Dalia loved meeting the village of people supporting her and her parents.

The GREATs' 65th
We are taking a break from Dalia content to highlight what was an incredibly special celebration for Erika's grandparents' 65th anniversary. At the party, we held a second wedding for them, complete with a veil, bouquet, 7 blessings, ketubah, and broken glass (a mosaic mirror).
Vacations
Dalia experienced her first vacations in Bethany with the Riefs and in Palm Beach Gardens with the Hornsteins!

In Memorium
We celebrated the life of Jon's Great Aunt Mildred, the coolest, realest, and kindest 90-year old on earth. Martinis and The Daily Show will never be the same.
